Middle School Project on Track
Thursday, 10 July 2014

July 10--  The $1.7 million dollar renovation project at J.R. Trippe Middle School in Vidalia should be almost completed when school starts August 6.

School Superintendent Dr. Garrett Wilcox says most of the major work will be done and there won't be anything left to do that would disrupt classes.

At this month's school board meeting, board members agreed with Dr. Wilcox that arming of staff and faculty members is not a good idea for school security.  A trained security guard is the way to go if money becomes available, according to Wilcox.

The superintendent also told the board he expects to have a list of school governance boardmembers in the near future.  A five-member board will oversee each of the four schools in the city under the new system of charter schools approved by both the local and state school boards.
