July 9--  A Lyons manufacturer is being recommended for a low interest state loan.

Toombs County Development Authority Director Bill Mitchell briefed the Lyons city council Tuesday night that the Authority Board is recommending approval of a $200,000 loan to Truax Veneer to expand operations and buy new equipment.

Mitchell also reported that a Kansas City company is considering taking over production of a pet food line currently planned for closure in Lyons by U.S. Pet.  If the deal goes through, Mitchell says Rayne Clinical would retain ten to 15 jobs and perhaps add more in the future.

The Lyons council approved a bid of $69,398 with a subsidiary of the Georgia Municipal Association to provide the city's property and liability insurance.
