Vets Air Concerns to Congressman
Wednesday, 09 July 2014

July 9--  Veterans in the 12th Congressional District got to air their concerns about the Veterans Administration with Congressman John Barrow.

ImageAfter sessions in several towns, including Vidalia, during the past few days, Congressman Barrow said he heard some common themes from veterans.

"One is the fact that in the VA system you get passed from doctor to doctor and you get no continuity of care.

"There's too much reliance on medication and not enough hands-on care from doctors.

"You get a lot more care on the outside than you do on the inside.  I think that's pointing in the direction of reform for the future.  We ought to figure out what it is the VA does that you can't get anywhere else and we ought to enhance that.

"So far as the care you can get on the outside, it's better and quicker.  Maybe we should start giving the veterans the option to go on the outside for their care and that's what we in the Congress are negotiating right now," Congressman Barrow said.
