July 1-- Mrs. Vivian McDaniel Martin, age 86, of Uvalda, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in the Bethany Nursing Center of Vidalia after an extended illness. 

She was a native Mt. Vernon and lived in Montgomery County most of her life.  She was a graduate of Georgia Teachers’ College in Statesboro, earning a Bachelor’s in Education, and earned her Masters in Education at Southwestern College in Americus.  She was a retired educator, teaching at Montgomery County Middle School, and Toombs Central School, and retired after thirty-three years.  She was a member of the Retired Georgia Teachers Association and the Uvalda United Methodist Church.  She was a member of the United Methodist Women, and held several positions in local and district offices.  She was so dedicated to the UMW, that she was honored with “Vivian Martin Day” by the Uvalda United Methodist Church in recognition of her service.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Martin; parents, Carl E. McDaniel and Allene Elliott McDaniel; and son-in-law, Earl Rodgers.

Mrs. Martin is survived by one daughter, Linda Martin Rodgers of Uvalda; one son, Richard Martin and wife Pollyann of Vidalia; four grandsons, Robbie Rodgers, Ryan Rodgers and wife Jill all of Uvalda, Rusty Rodgers and wife Eve of Alamo, and Reid Rodgers and wife Tamra of Ailey; one granddaughter, Savanna Martin Cummings and husband Michael of Rocky Mountain, North Carolina; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Elliott McDaniel and wife Mary Ann of Ocilla, and Allen McDaniel and wife Ollie Jo of Baxley; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the Uvalda United Methodist Church with Reverend Shareon Wommack officiating.  Burial will follow in the Uvalda City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
