June 24--  Mr. M.I. Jackson, age 70, of Lyons, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in Oxley Park Health and Rehabilitation in Lyons after an extended illness.  He was a native of Richmond County, and grew up in McBean.  He lived in many places before moving to Toombs County in 1968. 

He was a heavy equipment operator with IUOE Local 474, and retired after forty years.  He was a member of Vidalia Masonic Lodge #330, and the Scottish Rite in Savannah. 

In 1985, he was chosen as the Georgia Independent School Association state coach of the Year, and that year won the State Championship in girl’s softball at Robert Toombs Christian Academy.  He was well-known for his barbequing abilities, where he cooked for several politicians, including former Governor Joe Frank Harris.  He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tabitha Page.

Mr. Jackson is survived by three children, Pam Jackson Bishop and husband Mark of Lyons, Pat Jackson Dixon and husband Otha of Vidalia, and Beau Jackson and wife Kasey of Dublin; seven grandchildren, Amie Page Johnson, Abbie Bishop, Beth Benton Kamsler, Jackson Warnock, Savannah Jackson, Brendon Jackson, and Camden Jackson; and four great-grandchildren, Melody, Benton, Asher, and Braden.

The graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 25th at 11:30 a.m. in the Pinecrest Cemetery with Allen Braswell and Jane Benton officiating. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10:00 until 11:00.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Vidalia Masonic Lodge, P.O. Box 1142, Vidalia GA 30475.
