This weekend in the Major League Baseball draft, Barons right-handed pitcher Evin Einhardt was selected in the 29th round by the Chicago White Sox. He posted a record of five wins and three losses, with a 1.57 era. He had 58 strikeouts while only allowing a remarkable 12 earned runs on the year. He was named the 2014 SSAC Conference Pitcher of the Year.

According to Einhardt, “Being drafted is the best feeling in the world. I would like to thank my family, and I would also like to thank my coaches and my teammates at Brewton-Parker for helping me get to this point in my life.” Einhardt was scheduled to fly to Arizona Monday, June 9 to start his big league career. Einhardt’s draft caps off a great season for both him and the Barons this year.

Brewton-Parker Baseball has a history of having players sign professionally in the six years Coach Mullins has been at the college, most recently with Jon Kemmer’s draft by the Houston Astros last year.

According to Coach Mullins, “I’m just proud to be able to give these guys an opportunity to play at the next level. God has truly been with this baseball program, and I hope to continue to have guys reach their dreams.” In six years under Coach Mullins the Barons have had 12 players sign professional contracts.

As the Barons get ready to prepare for another fall season, they hope to pick back up on the great 2014 season they had. In 2014, the Barons led the SSAC conference with a .322 batting average as a team, second in pitching with a 3.01 era, and third in fielding with a .964 fielding percentage. They finished second in the SSAC conference with a 32 and 13 season record. Throughout the season, they were nationally ranked in the top 15 in NAIA and they also reached the NAIA national tournament.

Along with the team accomplishments, the Barons also collected several individual awards. The Barons had five SSAC All-Conference selections: Eddie Peyton, Evin Einhardt, Chris Van Brandt, Clay Fenwick, and Michael Venturelli. They had SSAC Gold Glove Winners Brandon Bynam and Clay Fenwick. Player of the Week Awards went to Clay Fenwick, Evin Einahardt, and Michael Venturelli. Einhardt was also named SSAC Pitcher of the Year, Brandon Bynam was named SSAC Freshman Player of the Year, and Coach Greg “Boo” Mullins was named SSAC Coach of the Year. With the majority of the team returning next season, the Barons look to have another great season in 2015.
