Donations Sought for D'Marco's Funeral

June 11--  The family of D'Marco Castro, the 13-year-old Toombs County Middle School student who drowned Monday, needs assistance with his funeral expenses.  If you can help, contact the Stewart-Rosier Funeral Home at 537-3044.

ImageJune 10--  The Toombs County school system is offering grief counseling for friends of D'Marco Castro, a student at Toombs County Middle School who drowned Monday afternoon in the Ohoopee River.

The school will have counselors available on Wednesday, June 11 from 9:00-11:00 AM to share tips with parents on helping their children deal with the process of grief. 

Also there will be counseling sessions and activities for students located in the foyer of Toombs County Middle School.


June 9--  Toombs County EMA Director Lynn Moore reports a 13-year-old boy drowned about three p.m. Monday afternoon in the Ohoopee River near the Collins bridge on Highway 292.

Moore says the boy stepped off a sandbar and went under.   Another young boy tried to save him, but was fought off by the panicked teenager.

About five hours later, divers from Wayne and Appling counties found the body of  D'Marco Castro of Lyons, according to Moore.
