Dalton produced just that in her senior season. She won medalist honors at the GHSA Class AA tournament for the second straight year and led her team to its third state title in four years.

“She’s a very competitive person, and she’s just so consistent with her play,” Barker said of Dalton, who has been named The Telegraph’s All-Middle Georgia Golfer of the Year. “You can always count on her to shoot rounds of 70 to 75, and you just know she’s going to give you that every time out on the course. She’s a hard worker, and she has just done so much for this program.

“Everything she does is consistent. Her game is that way, too. She hits almost every fairway and every green and is just a terrific player.”

Dalton’s hard work paid off in high school and will pay off in college, as well. She signed with Mercer, but she said she will play her first college season at Seminole State College, a junior college in Orlando, Florida, before she plans to join the Bears. “I’ve put in a lot of hard work, and it feels great to win another state title,” Dalton said. “It feels awesome to know that I’m going to play in college, too. I signed with Mercer, but I’m taking a little detour first and then go there my second year. I’m looking forward to it.”

Dalton won medalist honors by shooting a 3-over-par 75. Two of her teammates finished in the top five. Layne Carter finished tied for second, while Jesse Dalton, Katie’s younger sister, finished fifth.

“We had a great team, and we all worked really hard, and I wanted to take the younger players under my wing,” Katie Dalton said. “I wanted to be a leader to help Layne and Jesse so they could continue this next year.”
