Habitat Home Dedicated
Tuesday, 24 February 2009

February 24-- The Vidalia Area Habitat for Humanity had dedicated its seventh home in the Vidalia area.  "It's just wonderful to be up and active again and to get some progress here in the community," said Latrelle Stockton at Sunday's dedication ceremonies for the new home on Kelly Avenue in Vidalia.

Reverend Kevin Hicks from the Vidalia Presbyterian Church asked for God's blessing on the home of LaJoel and Renee Dixon.  "We're here to offer our thanks to God and to ask for God's blessing on your house.  We're also here to thank those who worked on the house as well.  Peace to this house and all who enter it," he said.

Families who apply for Habitat homes work at least 500 hours with volunteer builders as the homes are built.  Renee Dixon says it's a blessing.  "I just want to thank God first and thank Vidalia Area Habitat for Humanity.  A special thanks to my Daddy, he died before the house got built, and to Marion Forrest, but he's here in this house with us and I just thank everybody," she said.

The new house was designed to help one of the Dixon's son who is a special needs child.  "It allows him to get in and out of bathrooms and it's a great pleasure to have it," Mrs. Dixon noted.
