May 20--  State Representative Greg Morris says he got the message in his slim win Tuesday over challenger Lee Burton.  The former Navy SEAL beat Morris in both Toombs and Montgomery counties.  However, Morris won just enough in Appling and Jeff Davis counties to win by 70 votes, just over one percent of the vote.

"I have not done a good enough job of communicating with the people I represent in Toombs and Montgomery counties and I want to change that," he said.

Toombs County State Court Solicitor Justin Franklin got elected over Tina Maddox by 18%, 1,918 to 1,368.

Both incumbents on the Toombs County school board were defeated.  Chairman Daniel Caraway lost to Clint Williams by a margin of 16%, 1,282 to 928.  District Three incumbent Rahn Milligan lost to Mitch Bellflower by 22%, 193-124.

The new chairman said he and Caraway "both have something we want to do good for our school system, but just have a different path to go about it."

The incumbent school board chairman in Montgomery County beat challenger Ben Clark by about six percent on the strength of absentee and advance voting, 323 to 291.

Another incumbent in Montgomery County, Uvalda County Commissioner John Carpenter (234) got 55% of the vote over challengers Jay Murray (99) and Lewis Smith (91) and will face Democrat Leland Adams in the November election.

Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax referendums passed in both Toombs and Montgomery counties.  The one penny sales tax was approved by 66% of the voters in Toombs and by 70% in Montgomery.

Two incumbents were re-elected in Treutlen County.  Commissioner Cashaundra Smith got 54% of the vote over Van Harris, 211 to 178.  Board of Education member Demetria Noble beat Ronald Baker with 70% of the vote, 274 to 116.
