Early Voting Light
Monday, 19 May 2014

May 19--  Early in-person voting ended Friday and area voting supervisors say the turnout was light.

In Toombs and Treutlen counties, there was an 8% early voting turnout and in Montgomery County 7% of the voters voted early.

Toombs County Election Supervisor Cary Alligood says 1,144 voted early including 1,056 in the Republican primary and 88 in the Democratic primary.  Additionally, 290 absentee ballots were mailed to Republicans and 16 to Democrats.

In Montgomery County, Voting Registrar Bobbie Carpenter reports 329 voted in advance including 269 Republicans and 60 Democrats.  Absentee ballots were mailed to 64 Republicans and 43 Democrats in Montgomery County.

Treutlen County Voting Registrar Judy Carter says 375 Treutlen County voters voted early and 137 absentee ballots were mailed.

Statewide, officials say early voting is a bit higher this year than in the last off-year election in 2010.  The number of Georgians voting early this year totals 239,281 compared to 212,487 in 2010.

The polls will be open Tuesday from 7 a.m. till 7 p.m. with results Tuesday night on Your Favorite, 98Q.
