May 15-- Deacon James Matthew Harmon was born on January 25, 1936, in Kite, Georgia, to the late James and Victoria Harmon. He departed this life on May 8, 2014 at Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia, GA.

Deacon Harmon was a devoted husband to Udell Hunt Harmon for 52 years prior to her passing in 2007.  He later married Ruth Sanders in 2012.  He was an active member and deacon at St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church for many years.  He was a leader within his community as well as the patriarch of his family.  He loved his family deeply; he and his brothers started a company in the logging industry in the 1960s. The Harmon Brothers Logging Company flourished well until 2001 when the brothers retired.

Deacon Harmon is survived by His Daughters: Daphne (Lenard) Gainey of Gainesville, FL:  and Cynthia (Howard) Johnson of Upper Marlboro, MD.   Six Sisters: Louella Floyd; Lillie Ruth Dasher (deceased), Jimmie Nell Givens (Billie); Marilyn McClendon (James); Willie Belle Freeman; Almeter Brady; and Wylene Hunter (Roscoe).   Three Brothers: David Harmon; Sammie Lee Harmon; and Larry Harmon.  Nine Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends also survived.

Public visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 12 noon until 6 PM, and a Wake from 6 until 7 PM.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 3:30 PM from the Sanctuary of First African Missionary Baptist Church in Lyons, GA.  Rev. Clint McLeod, Sr., Pastor; Rev. Frederick Fondern, eulogist.  Interment will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Lyons, GA.

Vincent R. Drummer Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
