Teacher Charged in Montgomery Co
Thursday, 15 May 2014

May 15--  A 26-year-old math teacher at Montgomery County High School is being charged with sexual assault for having an inappropriate relationship with an 18-year-old male student.

According to GBI Agent-in-Charge Todd Lowery, Christine Spivey is being charged because of the student-teacher relationship.  The student involved is also charged with making a false statement to a law enforcement officer.

The GBI was called in after an initial investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff's office.

Montgomery County School Superintendent Randy Rodgers says Spivey has submitted her resignation "effective immediately" and she has been barred from campus.

Rodgers reports school district action is pending receipt of further details from the GBI.  He said the case has been reported to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
