Cutback at USPet in Lyons
Thursday, 15 May 2014

May 15--  More than two-thirds of the employees at USPet in Lyons are being laid off according to a statement from the company this afternoon.

"USPet Nutrition is scaling down its Lyons, Georgia operations, which will result in the elimination of 140 hourly and 20 salaried positions starting the middle of July through August 2014.

The majority of positions affected are in manufacturing; however, some research and development positions will also be impacted.

This scale down was needed in order for USPet Nutrition to remain
competitive, and will allow the company to focus on the areas of its pet food
business that remain viable and strong.

“At USPet Nutrition, we take pride in our high-caliber workforce and it is
with great sadness that we are scaling down our operations,” said Paul English,
president of USPet Nutrition. “Our employees’ hard work and willingness to go
the extra mile did not go unnoticed, but competitive pressures make this move
necessary. We thank all of our employees for their dedication to our company
and commitment to creating high-quality pet food products.”

English said about 50 employees will remain after the cutback is completed.

All affected employees have been given timely notice of the scale down,
and have been offered severance packages and job readiness assistance.
