Thursday, 08 May 2014

May 8--  The Treutlen Viking baseball team defeated the Schley County Wildcats in a two game series sweep on Wednesday in Ellaville, GA to advance to the final four of the Class A Public State Playoffs.  The Vikings knocked off the #1 seed Wildcats in game 1 by a score of 16 - 12.

Treutlen jumped out to an early 12 - 0 lead after 2 innings and then held off a late rally by Schley County.  Junior pitcher Brad Cammack came in with 2 outs in the 7th to get the save and recorded the last out by striking out cleanup hitter Ryan Ragsdale with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th.

Cammack pitched a complete game in game 2 allowing only 4 runs and striking out 8 in 7 innings.  With the game tied at 4 with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, Viking left fielder Titus Benjamin hit a walk off 3 run homer for the 7 - 4 victory.

Head Coach Brent Korn's Vikings will head to Chickamauga, GA on Monday to face Gordon Lee in the final 4.  Game times on Monday are 4 PM and 7 PM with the if necessary game on Tuesday at 3 PM.  Treutlen was eliminated from the 2013 playoffs by Gordon Lee last year.  This will be the Vikings 3rd trip to the final four in the last four years.
