May 7--  Mr. George Dewey Wynn Jr., age 70, of Lyons, died Saturday, May 3, 2014 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness.  He was a native of Guyton and lived most of his life in southern California before moving to Toombs County in 2011.  He was Baptist by faith.

While serving our country in the United States Navy, he was aboard the fighter squadron F161 attached to the USS Midway CV41, USS Kitty Hawk CVA63, fighter squadron VFI attached to the USS Enterprise, USS Oriskany CV34, USS Forrestal CVS59, and USS Ticonderoga CVS14 and retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after twenty-four years of service.  

After retirement, he was a production controller for Navy in the aviation department at the Miramar Naval Station in San Diego, California as well as in Coronado, California for a combined seventeen years.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dicy and George Wynn Sr.

Mr. Wynn is survived by his wife of five years, Nancy Atkinson Wynn of Lyons; former wife, Nikki Bennett of Bradenton, Florida; three stepchildren, Robyn Donahue and husband Eddie of Riverside County, California, Christine Trail and husband Liam of Auburn, Washington, and Joel Rodriquez of College Station, Texas; one sister, Betty Parrish and husband Fred of Statesboro; five step-grandchildren, Cassandra Castillo of Lompoc, California, Vivianne Rodriquez of College Station, Texas, Mackenzie Cook, Matthew Trail both of Auburn, Washington, and Michael Trail of Fallbrook, California; one great grandson, Jaxson Castillo of Lompoc, California; and nieces and nephews, Tonya Lane and husband Rusty of Midville, Diane Meeks and husband Bill of Vidalia, Lee O’Brien, Linda Webster both of Statesboro, and Dennis Parrish of Thurmont, Maryland.

The graveside service with military honors will be held Thursday, May 8th at 2:00 p.m. in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro with Pastor Rickey Jones officiating.

Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia is in charge of the arrangements.
