May 3--The 23rd Annual Southeast Georgia Soap Box Derby was held at Derby Hill in Lyons Saturday. The biggest field ever of 59 cars took part in the event. For the second year two separate divisions were part of the derby, the Stock division and the Super Stock division.

This year one family from Lyons is heading to Akron, Ohio this summer to represent this area in the Soap Box Derby World Championships. Ten- year old Alexie Carroll won the Stock Division, and her fourteen- year old brother Peyton Carroll won the Super Stock Division. Both will receive a check for $1000.

“ There are no words to explain it, I have been a bag of nerves since the last three races for both. I am tickled pink and thanking God that they both did it.” Mother Renee Gay said.

“ I am just super proud of this whole community coming together and making this event what it has been the last three years. We just had an awesome day and everybody here had a good time. One family gets to go with both kids to Akron and it doesn’t get any better than that.” Soap Box Derby Director Michael Williamson said.
