Mrs. Polly Rushton, Vidalia
Thursday, 01 May 2014

May 1-- Mrs. Polly Rushton of Vidalia, affectionately known as “Miss Polly”, died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 in the Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia after a brief illness.  She was a native of McWilliams, Alabama and lived in Vidalia since 1945 when she started her volunteer service to the community.

She worked as a Pink Lady at Meadows Memorial Hospital for several years, and was a member of the sewing club for sixty-five years.  She was a member of the Women’s Mission Union, and has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia since 1945.  She arranged with various ministers a weekly church service at the Precious Care Home and was an art teacher in several schools in the Vidalia School System.  Countless times, she has assisted the elderly and disabled with transportation for doctor visits and meals; and since 1961 was a faithful supporter of the Paul Anderson Youth Home.

Miss Polly was also known for her unequivocal support of her Atlanta Braves, which was apparent from her dress, including her earrings.  As most people know in the Vidalia community, this is just a small snippet of an incredible lady and the lives she selflessly impacted.  She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Kilby Rushton and two children, Ken Rushton and Kurt Rushton.

“Miss Polly” is survived by three grandchildren, Kim Johnson and husband Roy of Lyons, Carrie Mathews of Tennessee, and Miranda Thompson and husband Mike of McDonough; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and many friends.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 3rd at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Bucky Kennedy and Reverend Don Moye officiating.  Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia is in charge of arrangements.
