Temp Firm to Manage Substitute Teachers in Vidalia
Wednesday, 30 April 2014

April 30--  Substitute teachers in the Vidalia City schools will be provided by a company which supplies temporary workers starting next school term.

The Vidalia school board agreed to a contract with Kelly Educational Services at a cost of $85.30 per teacher per day.  The going rate for substitute teachers hired directly by the school system is currently $60 per day.

School Superintendent Dr. Garrett Wilcox believes the school system will save money in the long run through cost avoidance related to health insurance under the Affordable Care Act and workmen's compensation insurance and through increased efficiency at the school level.

The school system retains the authority to reject or accept the teachers on the company's substitute roster, he said.

In another school board decision, the non-resident tuition to attend Vidalia City schools next year will be $200 per student, the same rate as this year.
