Mr. Omer Reaves, Vidalia

Apr 22- - Mr. Omer Reaves, age 72, of Vidalia, died Sunday, April 20, 2014 in the Memorial Health University Hospital in Savannah after a brief illness.  He was a native of Vidalia, and was a 1959 graduate of the Vidalia High School where he was the first student given the Star Student Award.  After high school he joined the U.S. Army, entered officer’s training school, and served two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He flew the OV-1 Mohawk, was the recipient of two Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Bronze Star for Valor, and was honorably discharged as a Captain.  He was a self-employed builder for many years in Illinois, and most recently was employed at Rocky Creek Golf Club in Vidalia.  He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Reaves.

Mr. Reaves is survived by his children, Steve Reaves and wife Becky of Pocahontas, Illinois, Sue Weiss of Highland, Illinois, and Scott Reaves and wife Candace of Glenmont, New York; Julie Reaves of Highland; mother, Blanche Reaves of Vidalia; one sister, Uvonne Anderson and husband Alan of Vidalia; three brothers, Roger Reaves and wife Linda, Glenn Reaves, and H.D. Reaves all of Vidalia; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 24th at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home.  Burial will follow later in the Pinecrest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
