Friday, 20 February 2009

February 20--  The Toombs County Development Authority and the State of Georgia are working on a project that could bring 230 jobs to the area.

According to Bill Mitchell of the Development Authority, a food processing company has narrowed its site search to Florence, South Carolina and the Toombs Corporate Center on U.S. Highway One north of Lyons.

The company is considering the former Syminton building for its new processing plant.  The state's Commissioner of Economic Development, Ken Stewart, visited with local officials early Friday to see what state incentives would be necessary to land the company.  Company executives and representatives of Symington also met to discuss acqjuisition of the building.

Mitchell told the Development Authority Board Thursday he hopes a decision will be made soon.
