According to a press release from the City of Lyons, Partin Park has completed another series of major improvements to its facilities.

Through help from several local donors, concession stand sales and SPLOST funds, the Lyons Recreation Department has invested over $140,000.00 in improvements to Partin Park.

Phase 1 began last year with the construction of the new Hitting Complex, sand volley ball court and additional parking. The completion of Phase 2 has added new electronic equipment, new playground equipment, and new facilities.

The Durden Cabin is now outfitted to function perfectly for corporate events that require good sound and visual equipment.  The Cabin now has a new smart television, new projector and screen and is equipped with a sound system that will bring events to life with true surround sound.  The Callaway Center also has a new smart television and the Dream House has also been updated with a new sound system.

Three of the four playgrounds, including the handicap accessible playground, also recently received new equipment.  In the largest playground on the “top deck” visitors will find a new merry-go-round and a bright new yellow and blue play set.

In the handicap accessible playground on the east side of the park, a new handicap merry-go-round was added and a new adult-size wheelchair accessible swing was constructed.  An additional merry-go-round was also added to the playground near the walking trail on the north side of the park.

Three new press boxes with state-of- the-art sound systems have been positioned for Fields #2, #3, and #4.   This new equipment will function better, sound better, and make it possible to play music prior to and between games.  Coach Callaway said he is looking forward to being able to play the national anthem before games.

A new sound system was also added to the existing Green Monster Field press box.  In addition to these upgrades, Field #4, on the “top deck,” now has a new scoreboard, donated by Mike Manning of Manning Insurance Agency and Craig Jones of Zaxby’s of Vidalia.

Work has already begun on Phase 3 of the project and will enable online registration for sports and building rental.  Online registration will be so much more convenient for parents to register their children for sports.  Online building rental will include information on each venue and the availability of each.

Phase 1 began last year with the construction of the “Hitting Complex” situated between the large upper playground and the NeSmith Birthday House. Beside this facility, a new picnic shelter was added to provide a shaded place for people to sit and watch, and a new sand volley ball court was also constructed in this area.

To better serve all of the adjacent facilities on the south side of the part, construction began last year on a new parking lot on the south side of Callaway Circle.  Paving of this parking lot will complete this part of the overall project and will take place very soon.  Three new ramps were also constructed from this new parking lot to create easier access to all of the amenities in this area of the park.
