April 3--  The Vidalia Police Department's officers and employees honored one of their departed at this year's departmental awards ceremony.

The Officer of the Year Award was named for the late Officer Brad Bradley and was presented to Corporal Lindsey Reddish.

"I went to the Academy with Brad.  He was a great friend.  We went through a lot together and it was a privilege working with him.  He passed away in September and it was an honor getting this from his parents," she said.

ImageOfficer Bradley's mother, Donna, who helped make the presentation with Chief Frank Waits,  said "I am so impressed with how much the town embraces the police department.  Brad loved what he did, but it may have been because of the town and the people he met.  I don't know how much everybody knew him, but we love Toombs County because they loved him."

Chief Waits said having Officer Bradley's parents at the ceremony meant a lot to the department.

"We miss Brad everyday.  We did get some easing tonight with his parents being here.  I'm very proud of them and I think they're handling it better than we are.  I could hardly get through the presentation.  That's how much we miss him, we still love him and we'll pray for him," the Chief said.

The Rookie of the Year is Officer Jeremiah Auchenbach, two Supervisors of the Year were named this year and are Sergeant McKinley Lewis and Lieutenant James Jamon.  The Employee of the Year is the department's Information Technology specialist, Carol Kennedy.
