Mr. Lanier Mercer, Glenwood

March 2-- Mr. Lanier Mercer, age 84, of Glenwood, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 in Glenwood Healthcare after an extended illness. 

He was born in Uvalda and lived all of his life in Wheeler County.  He was a lifelong farmer, worked with Purolator Courier Service in Macon, and with the Georgia Forestry Commission in Wheeler County, both for many years.  He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, an emeritus member of Glenwood Masonic Lodge #478, and Woodman of the World. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Smith Mercer in 2007; parents, Tom Henry Mercer and Annie Claire Jackson Mercer; and six siblings, William Henry Mercer, John Taft Mercer, Rex Mercer, Ray Mercer, Wayne Mercer, and Frances Mercer Graham.

Mr. Mercer is survived by two sons, Thomas Mercer and wife Karen and Ted Mercer all of the Landsburg Community; three grandchildren, T.J. Mercer and wife Ashleigh of Baxley, Kim Griffin and husband Mike of Mt. Vernon, and Blake Mercer of Statesboro; four great-grandchildren, Tabatha, Nora Grace, Ben, and Holden; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Monday, March 3rd at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend W.R. Connell and Reverend Paul Mulling officiating.  Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00.
