Local Girl Scouts To Be Honored
Saturday, 01 March 2014

March 1--  A group of Toombs County Girl Scouts is being honored by the American Red Cross.

ImageDubbed "The Green Teens," these Girl Scouts partnered with the Southeast Georgia Communities Project to focus on diabetes prevention.  The girls created a community garden and worked with a University of Georgia nutritionist to conduct cooking lessons for women in the community.

They are among a group of young people from Statesboro, Brooklet, Claxton, Glennville, Hazlehurst, Lumber City and Lyons to be honored at a "Youth Heroes" awards breakfast Friday, March 7th in Statesboro by the American Red Cross of Southeast Georgia.

The Red Cross says the program is meant to salute future leaders and to encourage others to volunteer to improve the communities in which they live.

You can reserve a seat at the breakfast or purchase a table by calling Robin Wingate at the American Red Cross, 651-5350.
