Vidalia's Man and Woman of the Year

February 21-- For the first time since 2008, Vidalia names a man and woman of the year.

ImageAt the annual awards dinner Thursday night, the revived Woman of the Year selection committee named Jackie Moses as its recipient. She received flowers from her husband, Harry, and the award from Carol Rice. 

She's a Vidalia native whose Dad, Jack Mosley, was the town's Citizen of the Year in 1956.  She cited his example accepting the award and said, "It means a great deal to me.  I've been very honored to be a part of the Vidalia community and I'm so happy I've been able to do some things that may have helped a person or two here and there.  I'm thrilled with the honor."

Howard Holman is the Vidalia Citizen of the Year.  He's lived here 40 years and loves the town because it offered him a second chance.

Image"I was afforded an opportunity to be successful in this community with all of the support I received from a whole lot of people.  I remember them to this day.  I remember the things they said and did to this day.  It's forgotten in their minds, but this town is just very special to me," he said.

Holman is now an executive with Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia and is credited with recruiting 60 physicans during his tenure.  He says the city is part of his sales pitch.

"When I bring people here to Vidalia for the hospital, you have to talk them into coming here, but when they get here and they sense the energy and they meet the people, but mostly they sense the energy.  All of you have to do is look around at some of the stuff that's happened over the past 25 to 30 years here," he said.
