Montgomery Amends State Reports
Wednesday, 19 February 2014

February 19--  Montgomery County is asking the Georgia Department of Revenue to amend 12 years worth of property tax millage reports the county filed with the state.

At a called meeting Wednesday, the County Commissioners approved a letter to the state amending property tax reports filed from 2002 through 2013. It also asked the state to amend reports regarding the use of the Insurance Premium Tax from 2005 through 2013.

The letter resulted from a review prompted by a lawsuit against the county.

Clerk of Court Keith Hamilton claims the county should refund property taxes to citizens in unincorporated parts of the county because it improperly used revenue from the Insurance Premium Tax.

The Commission denies the allegations in Hamilton's suit.
