February 17---Mr. Robert F. “Bobby” Gibbs, age 83, of Lyons, died Sunday, February 16, 2014 in Pleasantview Nursing Home in Metter after an extended illness.  He was born in Toombs County and was a 1948 graduate of Toombs Central High School.  Immediately following high school, he joined the U.S. Army and, while waiting to be discharged, the Korean War started and he continued to serve his country in Korea.  After his service, he worked for the Vidalia Police Department, Toombs County Police Department, Palmer Tire Company, Vidalia Cement Company, Plant Hatch, and the Toombs County Sheriff’s Department.  He was a charter member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Lyons, and was preceded in death by his parents, John Adolph Gibbs and Ella Grace Fuller Gibbs; and two brothers, James Gibbs and Ben Gibbs.

Mr. Gibbs is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Dorothy Jean McDonald Gibbs of Lyons; two sons, Bob Gibbs and wife Carmen of Savannah and Mike Gibbs and wife Tammi of Vidalia; two grandsons, Trey Gibbs of Savannah and Anthony Gibbs of Vidalia; two brothers, Sid Gibbs and wife Nancy, and Don Gibbs and wife Sylvia all of Lyons; two sisters-in-law, Martha Gibbs of Lyons and Beverly Gibbs of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.

 The funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 19th at 2:00 pm in the Liberty Baptist Church with Reverend Don Gibbs and Reverend Michael Plowman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hardens Chapel Cemetery.

 The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 410, Lyons GA 30436.
