Good News for Local Governments & School Boards
Tuesday, 17 February 2009

February 17--  Local governments, school boards and property taxpayers are breathing a sign of relief after Governor Sonny Perdue agreed Tuesday on the state reimbursement of Homeowners Property Tax Relief Grant credits.

The credits had been given on 2008 property tax bills.  Without the state reimbursment, local governments would have had to send out an additional tax bill to property owners to make up for the lost revenue.

The state reimbursement to Toombs County will amount to about $306,000 and the city of Vidalia will get an estimated $62,000.  Reimbursements to local school boards include estimates of $252,000 to Toombs County schools, $197,000 to Vidalia City schools, $162,000 to Montgomery, $129,000 to Treutlen and $118,000 to Wheeler.
