Mr. Marlon A. Meeks- Lyons

January 29---Mr. Marlon A. Meeks, age 81, of Lyons, died Monday, January 27, 2014 in the Carl Vinson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Dublin after an extended illness.  He was born in Adrian and lived in Toombs County most of his life.  He retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base and previously was a police officer with the Lyons Police Department for several years.  He was a U.S. veteran of the Korean War and was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne.  He was a member of the East Gordon Street Baptist Church in Lyons.  He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Thelma O’Neal Meeks; an infant son, David Michael Meeks; grandson, Josh Jeffers; parents, Quincey and Daisy Henry Meeks; and eleven siblings, S.A., “Buck”, Essie Mae, “Shine”, Charles Edward, Erma, “Sun”, John, Grover, Thomas, and his twin brother Garlon.    

Mr. Meeks is survived by four daughters, Janice Collier and husband Ray of Glennville, Sheri Calhoun and husband Lynwood of Lyons, Debbie Smith of Vidalia, and Marilyn Jones of Thomson; one brother, James Meeks of Thomasville; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, January 31st at 11:00 am in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Dane Glisson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Collins Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lyons.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning beginning at 9:30.
