Mr. James Fortner- Kibbee

January 16---Mr. James Fortner, age 88, of the Kibbee Community, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation in Soperton after an extended illness.  He was a native of Kibbee, was a 1943 graduate of Montgomery County High School in Kibbee, and later earned an Associate degree from Brewton Parker College.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in the European Theater.  He lived in Macon for thirty years, and after his retirement from Citizens and Southern National Bank in Macon, moved back home to Kibbee in 1995.  He was a lifetime member of Optimist International in Macon, The Gideons International in Vidalia, the Soperton Masonic Lodge, and Deacon and member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Norma Adams Fortner; brother, Fenmore Fortner; sister, Lila Toole; nephew, “Rabbit” Fortner; and great-nephew, Jeff Fortner.

Mr. Fortner is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Undine Avery Fortner of Kibbee; two sons, David Fortner of Lealman, Florida and Sidney Fortner and wife Bang-on of Valrico, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 18th at 11:00 am in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Keith Tipton and Reverend Sam Scarbrough officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
