The following remarks were made by master of ceremonies Tom Peterson, III who was the Citizen of the Year in 1992.

"It is now my privilege to introduce to you the 2008 Vidalia Citizen of the Year.

I remember years ago someone was speaking to our Kiwanis Club. He asked everyone who was born in Vidalia to please stand up. About five (5) men stood. The point was made that so much of our success as a community depends on the contributions of newcomers. And that is exactly what happened with our honoree.

He moved here with his wife 34 years ago this month.

In the Spiritual category he has served as a Sunday school teacher for the past 26 years and on the governing body of his church and on various other commissions and staff positions.

t

In the Charitable category he is a big financial supporter of the Sweet Onion Golf Classic and has served on the Meadows Regional Medical Center golf tournament committee, the United Way golf tournament committee and the Toombs/Montgomery Chamber of Commerce golf tournament committee. In fact, he has played so much golf that he found it necessary to own two (2) golf courses just to reduce his green fees.

In the Cultural and Education category he has served as chairman of the Toombs County Chamber Excellence in Education committee and he is the longest serving member of the Southeastern Technical College Foundation. He has been an active supporter of the Altama Gallery, Franklinia Playhouse and the Ohoopee Regional Council for the Arts.

In Civic Affairs he is a member and past President of the Vidalia Kiwanis Club, a co-founder of the Three Rivers Quarterback Club and has coached his two (2) sons in football and baseball for the Vidalia Recreation Department.

In Public Affairs our honoree has been president of the Toombs/Montgomery Chamber of Commerce, served as a financial advisor to the Toombs County Development Authority and is currently on the Board of Directors of Meadows Regional Medical Center.

Our surprise recipient has distinguished himself in his chosen profession and opened his own accounting firm in 1983.

He is married to the former Therisa Mundy and they have two (2) sons Jared and Dyson. Jared is married to Avani and they have one new grand daughter Simran.

Please join me in inviting our 2008 Vidalia Citizen of the Year, Dennis Ingley to come forward and receive his recognition."
