Mrs. Ethel Hood, Lyons

January 6-- Mrs. Ethel “Honeybun” Hood, age 85, of Lyons, died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at her nephew’s home in Dublin after an extended illness.  

She was a lifelong resident of Lyons and was Baptist by faith. After many years as a cook, she retired from the Toombs County Sheriff’s Department and, was a homemaker as well.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hood; her parents, George and Lillie Mae O’Neal; four sisters, Ruby Smith, Ann Colson, Geneva Sharpe, and Wanda Emanuel; and three brothers, P.D. O’Neal, Gordon O’Neal, and McKinsey O’Neal.

Mrs. Hood is survived by two sisters, Vera Conley of Santa Claus and Frances Youmans and husband C.M. of Lyons; one brother, Cecil O’Neal and wife Hong of Lyons; three brothers-in-law, Archie Emanuel of Lyons and Bill Colson of South Carolina, and Leroy Sharpe of Lyons and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 8th at 11:00 am in the chapel of the Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Pastor Trent Akins officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
