Mrs. Meriam Slaton, Toombs Central

January 3--  Mrs. Meriam Knighton Slaton, age 76, of the Toombs Central Community, died Thursday, January 2, 2014 in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia after an extended illness. 

She was a native of Blakely and grew up in the Hilton Community in Early County.  She moved to Toombs County in 1968, worked with the Toombs County Extension Agency in Lyons for several years, and attended Faith Assembly of God in Lyons. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.H. Slaton in 2005; parents, Oscar and Eunice Tabb Knighton; and sister, Peggy Knighton Sinquefield.

Mrs. Slaton is survived by three sons, Robert Craig Slaton of California, Timothy Lee Slaton and wife Jean of Brunswick, and Patrick Herman Slaton and wife Carol of Toombs Central; two daughters, Brenda Slaton Herndon and husband Bruce of the South Thompson Community and Beverly Slaton Day of Toombs Central; five siblings, Anna K. Mulkey of Blakely, Vera Kirkland and husband Al of Hilton, Charles Knighton and wife Ramona of Hilton,  Sue White of Blakely, and “Sonny” Knighton and wife Jenny of Hartwell; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

The graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, January 4th at 2:00 pm in the Blakely Cemetery with Reverend Jay Reppert officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Community Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 2277, Vidalia GA 30475 or to the charity of your choice.
