December 27--  A 2010 graduate of Vidalia High School is the Outstanding Student of the Year in the Department of Recreational Sports at the University of Georgia.

ImageMandy Kay was nominated by her boss in the Ramsey Student Center for Physical Activities where she has a parttime job.

"I was really honored and shocked because our Rec Sports Department is really huge and there are so many candidates for that position.  I just felt really honored that I was chosen," she said.

Mandy was an honor graduate at Vidalia High School and believes the school did a good job of preparing her for college.

"I was really nervous because you have all these Atlanta schools and they are so competitive.  When I got there, one of my first classes was political science and I told my Vidalia government teacher, Miss Joy Collins, that I remembered everything from her class and made a 96 on my first test.  There were so many things I remembered from my classes at Vidalia High School and I felt I was really prepared," she said.

Mandy is a senior majoring in Dietary Science and will be looking for a job as a dietician when she graduates from UGA.

"It completely affects the rest of your life.  I just got out of Life Cycle Nutrition and it's so important to start early with prenatal nutrition all the way up to senior nutrition.  It's so important to live a healthy lifestyle, otherwise, your quality of life will decrease," she notes.
