Hertage Archery Begins Competition

The Vidalia Heritage Archery teams began their inaugural competitive season by participating in the Bulloch Academy tournament. Heritage brought  50 archers to compete  in the elementary, middle school, and high school divisions against Bulloch Academy and Bible Baptist Academy of Statesboro.
 
Twelve VHA archers placed in the top 3 spots in several groups: Lydia Sammons won 1st place in the girls' 4th grade flight, while Mason Beacham won 1st place and Caleb Pronza took 2nd in the boys' flight. The VHA girls swept the top 3 spots in the 5th grade flight with Emma Smith taking 1st , Tori Lane was 2nd, and Abigail Weeks placed 3rd, while in the boys' flight, Foster Jones took 3rd place. Helen Kate Baird was the overall top Heritage archer as she scored  253 and won the 6th grade girls' flight; Briana Smith took 3rd place for the girls.  Elliot Sammons shot well enough to finish 2nd in the 7th grade boys' flight. In the high school division, Kay Martin won 1st place for the girls while Bailey Gilliam took 3rd place for the Heritage Boys.
 
This was the first of several archery tournaments that VHA will enter before competing in the NASP Regional meet at Johnson County High School in February. The Heritage archers will continue to work on improving their shooting skills as they compete at the regional, state, and, possibly, the national tournament.
