Vidalia Wrestling Continues to Improve

December 16--- The Vidalia Indian wrestling team finished fifth this past weekend at the Annual West Laurens Christmas Tournament by placing eight wrestlers. 

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had eight wrestlers in the medal rounds of a tournament,” stated Coach James Ferry.

Senior captain, Shakeem Lassiter (285) placed second in the toughest weight class of the tournament.  Devin Johnson (182) placed second posting 5 wins during the tournament.  Darnell Hendley (152) placed second with the highest placing of his high school career.  Connor McCoy (120) placed third with a huge pin the consolation finals.  Daniel Copeland (195), senior captain, placed third with a fall over an opponent from East Laurens that defeated him last weekend.  Trace Simmons (220) placed third, defeating a West Laurens opponent that defeated him earlier in the tournament.  Jerry Clark (126) and Tyler Campbell (145) placed fourth with great pool round wrestling.

Other Indians in the tournament were Michael Joiner (126), Jawaun Miller (132), Jesse Conley (138), Reggie Lamb (138), and AnitquelBarras (195). 

“There have been many years since Vidalia has scored over 200 points in a tournament.  It feels real good,” Coach Bobby Blount contributed.
