United Way Exceeds Goal
Friday, 15 November 2013

November 14--  Donors in Toombs, Montgomery and Wheeler Counties helped the United Way exceed its goal this year by nearly $10,000.

Campaign chairperson Angie McDaniel had a goal of $500,500.00 this year and at Thursday's victory luncheon the final tally was more than $510,000.

"We're really excited.  We're really happy for all the people who donated money and all the people who came out today and who support the United Way all year long.  It's really phenomenal," McDaniel said.

United Way Executive Director Patricia Dixon reports the campaign was about $30,000 short two days ago until campaign volunteers came through.

"I can never thank them enough.  I get a lot of credit, but it's not me, it's them and it's our community," she said.

The incoming campaign chair is Lee Evans who believes this community is unique in its level of support for the United Way.

"Where else can you spend one dollar and help 23 agencies.  Going around the state you see the United Way signs and I've yet to see a small community like Vidalia with a lofty goal in the $500,000 range.  That's just amazing," he said.
