Robert Toombs Christian Academy defeated Frederica Academy, the defending state champion, 42-7 last Friday night at McLendon Field. The victory not only brought home the Region 2-A title to RTCA, but gives the Crusaders the number one seed in the GISA state playoffs.

RTCA finished the 2013 regular season with an 8-3 overall record, 4-0 in region play. With the number one seed, the Crusaders earned home field advantage throughout the playoffs that begin this Friday, November 15, 2013 against Nathanael Greene Academy.

“We are very excited to be able to host. You always get a little something extra in front of the home crowd,” says Crusader head coach Thomas Smith.

After a shaky start this year, the Big Green will come in a very hot team. They were forced to win their last three games to even make the playoffs.

“They have a good offensive line and big running backs. They’re not extremely fast, but run the ball hard and are happy with three yards to keep the chains moving. It’s going to be key that our defensive line doesn’t stand up, they get downhill and wrap up on those big running backs to take them down,” said Smith.

Coach Smith also mentioned that the Crusaders are not content with just the region title, and still have things to accomplish. “This is a step towards our goal. I’m very proud of our work ethic and the leadership we have shown.”

The game starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night in Lyons. Come out and cheer your Crusaders to victory. If you can’t make the game, you can tune in to 101.7 FM, WYUM, or listen online at https://www.network1sports.com/station/wyum.
