Advance Voting Ends Friday

October 31--  Advance voting for next Tuesday's municipal elections ends Friday evening.

Officials in Vidalia say advance voting has been light for the special election the city is holding on the question of selling alcohol on Sundays.  There are two questions on the ballot.  One concerns the sale by stores and the other is regarding sale by the drink in establishments like restaurants.

There are no contested city of Vidalia races this year.  Advance voting on the alcohol issue continues through Friday at five o'clock at Vidalia city hall.  Voting on Tuesday will be from seven a.m. till seven p.m. at the Vidalia Municipal Annex and at the Old Health Department building on Morris Street.

Voting has also been slow in Lyons where three city council members are facing opposition.

Ward One incumbent Tracy Johnson faces Charles Nobles and Needum Rogers, Ward Two incumbent Ben Mitchell is challenged by Alfred Cason and Ward Four incumbent Wayne Hartley has opponents Keith Driggers, Jessee Lee Scott and Kelly Engle Tippett.

Advance voting in Lyons is taking place at the Toombs County Elections office on Lincoln Avenue with Tuesday voting set for the Octagon Building in Partin Park.

In Uvalda, advance voting and election day voting is at the Community House with two people running to succeed Mayor Paul Bridges.  They are former mayor Johnny Corley and Wade T. Carpenter, Jr.

Corley resigned from city council this year and four people running to fill his unxpired term are David Adams, Tal Dopson,Jr., Audie Evans and Emmett Fulford.

Five people running for three seats on the city council are inclubents Jeffrey Dopson, Martha Jackson and Llyod Moses along with Peggy Avant and Roger Demmer, Jr.
