Late Score Sinks Vikings
Friday, 25 October 2013

October 25--  The Wheeler County Bulldogs scored with 45.9 seconds remaining and punched in a 2 point conversion to defeat the Treutlen Vikings on Homecoming in Soperton by the score of 22 - 21.

The Vikings scored twice in the first half on a 2 yard run by Senior RB Austin Daughtry and a 9 yard pass from Junior QB Brad Cammack to Senior WR Kyle Rosen to take a 14 – 0 lead into halftime.  During the halftime festivities Kali Morris was named Homecoming queen for Treutlen.

The Bulldogs would cut the score to 14 – 7 with 8:18 to go in the third quarter when Senior QB Austin Oliver scored on a 1 yard run.  The Vikings would answer when Senior RB Tyler Heath scampered in from 6 yards out to extend the lead back to 14 points with 2:53 left in the third quarter.

Oliver would score again for the Bulldogs with just 3:43 left in the game to cut the lead to 21 – 14.  After an unsuccessful onside kick by Wheeler County, the Vikings were unable to get a first down and run out the clock giving new life to the Bulldogs.  Oliver would find Bryce Rogers across the middle for a 6 yard TD reception with just 45.9 seconds remaining.  Wheeler County would appear to be stuffed by the Viking defense on a run up the middle by Oliver on the 2 point conversion but no whistle from the officials and second effort by Oliver punched it in for the 22 – 21 victory.

The Vikings will be back at home next week to face Glascock County for senior night at Bobby Driggers Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 and you can catch all the action with Dr. John Pournelle, Blake Dennard, and Jeff Raiford.
