Time Short in United Way Campaign
Thursday, 24 October 2013

October 24--  With only about three weeks left in this year's United Way campaign for Toombs, Montgomery and Wheeler Counties, there's a long way to go and a short time to get there.

United Way Executive Director Patricia Dixon reports campaign volunteers have collected almost 58% of this year's $500,500 goal.

"It's a little bit slower this year.  Our campaign is two weeks shorter than we've had in the past.  We've got industries that are still doing their campaigns and different businesses who've done them but they've not finished them in order to turn their numbers in.  I think we're going to be okay, but we need everybody who usually donates to the United Way to go ahead and get it in the mail," she says.

Campaign officials note there's always a big push in the final weeks of the fund drive and Dixon is hoping things won't be any different this year.

"A lot of people are working fulltime jobs and they're volunteering a lot of hours to the United Way and trying to make it happen.  We've got 22 agencies that need our support and a lot of people in our community who are really hurting through no fault of their own.  We want to be a strong force in our community and reach out to these people who really need us," she observes.

The campaign is scheduled to end November 14th.
