Coach Ralph Parsons Honored by Class of 1974

October 7--- An appreciation banquet for legendary Coach Ralph Parsons was held in the Vidalia High School Cafeteria on Saturday, October 5.

Coach Parsons was honored for his years of dedication to the Vidalia City School System in front of friends, family, colleagues, and former players. October 5th, 2013 is now to be remembered as Ralph Parsons' Day granted by the mayor. The guest speaker, Coach Ed Smith, along with multiple others, spoke on Parsons' influence on the community.

Throughout the years, Parsons served as Vidalia's head baseball coach, girl's basketball coach, assistant football coach, and head football coach from 1962-1966.

Coach Parsons finished his coaching career with a record of 538-333 in basketball, 39-13-2 in football, and 48-27 in baseball. His 1973-74 basketball team was undefeated during the regular season, won the region championship, and advanced to the second round of the state tournament. Parsons' golf teams won five state championships as he was named National Golf Coach of the Year in 1985 and 1986. Parsons was named to the Georgia Southern University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993, along with his former basketball player Fred Stokes. 

Ralph and his wife have been married since 1953 and have a son, Hal, along with his wife Beth, and two grandsons, Harold Ralph "Tripp" Parsons III and William Bryce Parsons. 

Coach Parson's influence on Vidalia will never be forgotten throughout the athletic community. A special thanks to the Class of 1974 for putting on the event.
