Monday, 30 September 2013

September 30--  The daughter of former Brewton Parker President Albert Gates celebrated her 102nd birthday at the college last week.

ImageMrs. Mell Whipple of Vidalia graduated from Brewton-Parker in 1930.  She attended the college's weekly chapel service where she gave witty and frank responses to students' questions about her years at the college.  Her father was the college president from 1922 to 1941.

The students sang "Happy Birthday" to the college's oldest living graduate and presented her with a bouquet of red roses.

Outside, a specially prepared birthday cake awaited students and faculty, while students took pictures with Whipple and her family.
