Plant Hatch Unit Down for Maintenance
Monday, 16 September 2013

September 16-- Southern Nuclear issued the following news release regarding maintenance of Unit 2 at Plant Hatch.

"On Sept. 15 at 9:15 a.m. ET, Plant Hatch’s highly trained operators safely shut down unit 2 to conduct maintenance on a valve in the steam supply system.

In accordance with procedures and guidelines, in order to thoroughly investigate the issue and make necessary valve repairs, it is required to safely and manually take the unit offline.

“Southern Nuclear’s top priority is the safety and health of the public and our employees,” said DennisMadison, site vice president. “We are committed to the safe operation of our nuclear generating facilities with equipment and systems that meet strict NRC safety and design regulations.”

All plant systems operated as designed, and unit 1 continues to operate safely at 100 percent power. Once repairs are made, Plant Hatch employees will focus on bringing the unit safely back online.
