SOAPS Seeks Lyons Help for Animals
Wednesday, 04 February 2009

February 4--  Lyons Mayor John Moore says he's willing to meet with local animal lovers to improve animal protection in the city.

At Tuesday night's city council meeting, a delegation from the Sweet Onion Animal Protection Society(SOAPS) offered services to the city.  Spokesperson Terry Yates says SOAPS works closely with the Vidalia Animal Shelter and has provided facilities and staff to help with the animals.  She says the organization would like to explore something similar with Lyons.

Mayor Moore considers the Lyons shelter "adequate," but says "it could be better."  He asked Yates to set up a meeting with his office to discuss the offer from SOAPS.

The Lyons council agreed to seek a federal loan and grant to help furnish the city hall which is under construction.

And Mayor Moore announced bids will be opened March 5th for a half-million dollar project to do some paving and curb and gutter work in northwest Lyons.
