Gillis Timberland Added to State Conservation Program
Monday, 02 February 2009

February 2--  The state announced Monday the addition of nearly 1,500 acres of land in Treutlen and Laurens counties to the Georgia Land Conservation Program.

Governor Sonny Perdue says the Jim L. Gillis Forestry Legacy Easement brings to more than 100,000 the number of acres which has been preserved since the program started four years ago.

The land will be permanently protected by the conservation easement while allowing the Gillis family or any future owners of the property to continue harvesting timber and farm crops in perpetuity.
