July 11—ImageThe Vidalia Junior Girls defeated Liberty County 3-2 (Jessie Morris pictured) Wednesday at the GRPS State Softball Tournament at the Vidalia Regional Sports Complex. The game was a pitchers’ dual with no runs scored until the 4th inning when Vidalia scored 3. Jessie Morris pitched 6 scoreless innings for the Vidalia Junior Girls. Liberty County mounted a comeback scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th.

“ It feels great just knowing that we got that first win, it is going to be a tough tournament but we have got to stay strong through it.” Morris said.

“ We faced a really good pitcher today with Liberty Co., we started some small ball and got a big hit from Jazz Johnson. These girls have worked real hard the last 2 days and being off last week for the July 4th holiday. You will win ballgames with defense, but you will win championships with good pitching and that was what it was all about today.” Coach Billy Merritt said.

The Vidalia Junior Girls will play the winner of the Augusta vs Effingham Co game Thursday at 6:00pm.
