July 5—ImageThe Vidalia High School Wrestling Team hosted a wrestling camp last week. The camp was run by the Storm Center Wrestling in Dublin owner Gerald Carr.

“ Gerald Carr did a Takedown and Cradle Camp for us at the high school, we had 46 kids there with 18 of ours and 28 kids from other area schools. Gerald is a fantastic teacher of wrestling. He teaches a series of moves which are unique to what everyone else does. Everyone else teaches individual moves and leaves the rest up to the kids to put it together he way they want to. Gerald teaches in terms of if your opponent does this you have a, b and c to choose from. The kids that he has coached have all been very successful. He has coached 5 state championship teams, and he has had 20 high, middle and elementary schools National placers and National Champions.” VHS Wrestling Coach James Ferry said.

“ Gerald was a 3-time undefeated State Champion in high school with a 101-0 undefeated record at West Laurens High School in Dublin. A Junior College National Championship in California and then went to Minnesota University to wrestle for the legendary Jay Robinson in the Big 10 where he was an All- American.” Ferry said.

“ The whole goal of the camp was not just for our kids in Vidalia to get better, but for all of  South Georgia wrestling to get better. We all need to be together in order to catch up with the North Georgia teams and hopefully one day to surpass them. " Coach Ferry stated.
