Wolff Competes in PGA Professionals Championship

June 26th---ImageThe 46th Annual PGA Professionals National Championship was held June 23rd thru the 26th at Sun River Resort in Sun River Oregon and among the participants was Gregg Wolff, the Club Pro at Willow Lakes Golf Club in Metter.

This was Wolff’s 10th appearance in the tournament and at age 60 found the going a little tough as he shot a 76 & 78 to miss the 36 hole cut. “The courses were beautiful, but they were long, with the Meadows Course playing around 7000 yards and the Crosswater Course playing over 7500 yards, and for a 60 year old like me, that’s a pretty long golf course.”  The weather also didn’t help as Wolff said that he played both days in heavy rain. “Make no mistake about it, that’s not an excuse, because the courses were very tough, but with the wind and the rain, it seemed like we were playing in the British Open.”

Although not pleased with the score Wolff said he “felt like he played well and struck the ball well” and “will probably give qualifying another shot next year.”

And every Pro needs the support of their club and Wolff says that is absolutely one thing he has. “Willow Lake Golf Club is more than a golf club, it’s a family. I have been working here for 32 years and we have a family atmosphere and everybody pulls together and it’s a great opportunity for me to actually work at a golf club that’s more like a family. So the membership is always behind me when I play in big tournaments like this and I couldn’t ask for any better support than I get here at Willow Lake.”
